What is Curiously Equine?

Back in the early 2000’s Amy Yachimski developed an intentional approach to equestrian activities called Absolutely Equine in Massachusetts. Amy created a community of horse lovers with a passion for learning with their horses to excel in showing and training on the East Coast.

With this unique focus on intentional connection with horses, Amy curated an environment of mindfulness for her clients. She focused on body scans, breath work, and the rider’s presence along with respect, understanding, and curiosity with their horses. Absolutely Equine became a flourishing business and continued to influence the equine world upon relocating to Texas in 2007.

Amara Yachimski grew up joining their mother for riding lessons, summer camps, and training sessions almost every day. Amara’s skills with horses developed into an understanding of equine behavior that allowed them to connect with almost any horse. Often asked to be the “guinea pig” for new horses, Amara’s soft approach to riding and interaction quickly grew into a passion for therapeutic horsemanship.

Amara Yachimski created Curiously Equine as an homage to their beautiful mother, who passed away in 2016. With new knowledge about human and equine psychology, Curiously Equine strives to light the fire that Absolutely Equine sparked.

Values

I grew up with the words “Open heart, open mind,” echoing in my ears. Each time I got in the saddle and things weren’t going as planned, or I started to get frustrated, my mother would gently remind me that it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. I love creating connections with people and horses alike, and truly believe we have a special calling to intentionally connect with these beautiful creatures.

I instill mutual respect and curiosity for ourselves and our horses in everything we do together. Feeling open and honest throughout the process is extremely important to me and I am honored by every person who entrusts me to be a part of their equine journey.

Education

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. After experiencing first-hand the magic of healing people through horses, I pursued and earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern Methodist University. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and help people heal from trauma, rediscover themselves, and break generational patterns.

I maintain membership with the Texas Counseling Association, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, and Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship.

I have spent over 20 years working with horses of all breeds and disciplines. I utilize Natural Horsemanship techniques in my interactions with horses, including foundations of Liberty. I rescued my mustang, Raven, in 2021 and enjoy taking him for trail rides and practicing Liberty work.
